FAQ – Who is a Great Candidate for Liposuction?

FAQ – Who is a Great Candidate for Liposuction?

Liposuction interestingly is often sought by those who wouldn’t benefit, and isn’t by those who are its best candidates. Contrary to popular thought, liposuction is not a weight loss tool. Indeed, the procedure is meant to remove unwanted fat, but not as much as many people think.

The procedure is one of the best tools available for targeted body contouring. The fat that is removed (which may be kept for other purposes) is done in small amounts, while the fat that remains is smoothed to leave behind a great contour. If there is too much fat for the liposuction to first of all remove, then a noticeable contour difference that’s desired wouldn’t be possible. That would have to be repeated over and over and over again; patients who are significantly overweight will not benefit much from liposuction.

The Best Candidate – Getting Rid of Problem Areas

The best candidate for liposuction? Those with problem areas of fat. The best plastic surgeons prefer their patients to lose as much weight as possible prior to liposuction. That’s not to say that someone should go overboard and become crazy thin, but the ideal patient is someone who has worked hard to get a decent physique and been able to sustain it.

High Def Liposuction - Female.

Even with exercising and dieting, problem areas of fat can occur. Notable problem areas include:

  • thighs/saddle bags
  • love handles
  • lower abdomen

These areas are notoriously difficult to burn fat from. Those who do not have problem fat in these areas are either genetically gifted or have a diet and exercise routine that rivals that of professional athletes. Many don’t have the time nor desire to do such a thing, especially in the 30s and 40s with a career and family.

With liposuction, these areas can have the appropriate amount of fat removed, while using that which remains to smooth out the contour so that the skin takes an improved form. And because liposuction is one of the most successful procedures, those patients who have spent their lives working hard to look great can know that if they decide on lipo, it will be the answer to those love handles.
